On 5 February Mariana Betsa, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine held an online meeting with Miriam Mac Intosh, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Business and International Cooperation of the Republic of Suriname.
Mariana Betsa informed her counterpart about the current security situation in Ukraine amid Russia’s ongoing armed aggression and expressed gratitude to Suriname for its support for sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
The parties discussed current issues on the Ukrainian-Surinamese bilateral agenda and prospects for deepening political dialogue and practical cooperation between the two states. Special attention was paid to cooperation within international organizations, in particular the United Nations, as well as to coordinating efforts aimed at maintaining international peace and security.
The Deputy Minister separately emphasized the need to increase international pressure on Russia in connection with its ongoing criminal actions against Ukrainian children and the aggressor state’s systematic policy aimed at destroying their Ukrainian identity. She also informed her counterpart about the work of the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children.
In the context of marking the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Ukraine and the Republic of Suriname in 2026, the parties reaffirmed their interest in maintaining regular political dialogue and further developing Ukrainian-Surinamese relations.
