Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin met with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Catherine Ashton in the framework of his visit to the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Luxembourg.
Speaking about the settlement of the situation in the eastern regions of our State, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister informed the EU High Representative about the peace plan of President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and the process of its implementation in current circumstances.
Both of them agreed with the importance to sign the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement on June 27, 2014, which would become a relevant response to the challenges faced by Ukraine in terms of securing our sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Regional security issues were also discussed, specifically, with regard to the EU’s readiness to deploy the EU Common Security and Defense Policy Mission in Ukraine. The Minister expressed his appreciation for the adoption by the EU of a crisis management concept, which defines the framework of the Mission. He emphasized the special interest of the Ukrainian side to have border security issues included into the Mission’s operational mandate.
