On 15 August 2014 during the briefing in the Ministry of foreign affairs of the EU member states and the G7 countries were informed about the content of the Laws of Ukraine "On sanctions" and "On amending some Laws of Ukraine on reforming the management of the gas transportation system of Ukraine", adopted by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on 14 August.
As Minister of Justice of Ukraine Pavlo Petrenko stated, the Law "On sanctions" is directed at defending against attacks on sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and establishes framework for sanctions in case of such actions. It is important, that concerns of both the Ukrainian society and foreign partners had been taken into account and provisions on the possibility of limitation of the media and NGOs were deleted from the text.
Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine Yuriy Prodan stressed that adoption of the Law on reform of the GTS was actually aimed at bringing Ukrainian gas market in line with the third energy package of the EU and would allow to significantly increase the transparency of management and attract additional resources for the modernization of the Ukrainian GTS. Answering a question Yuriy Prodan said that the Ukrainian gas transportation system was in good condition and fully prepared to perform its function of energy transportation.
