12 novembro 2014 20:06

"Today, the public demonstrates an extremely powerful request for the efficient investigation into the crimes committed on Maidan," the Head of State noted at the meeting with heads of security forces.

The President emphasized the importance of accelerating the investigation of all crimes against protesters on Maidan and urged the investigative bodies to intensify their work. "We have no right to delay this issue. No death should remain without responsibility of those who committed and organized these crimes," Petro Poroshenko said.

The Head of State is confident that the fact that the suspects in these crimes are fugitives doesn't prevent their conviction and prosecution. "The Law initiated by me provides grounds for the adjudication in absentia," the President emphasized.

Petro Poroshenko reminded that Ukraine had filed an appeal to the International Criminal Court in the Hague for the former leaders of the country led by Yanukovych to be punished under the international law.

"The public must know that the authorities act efficiently today and those who had committed crimes have already been convicted or will be convicted," the Head of State concluded.

Prosecutor General of Ukraine Vitaliy Yarema reported to the President on the course of the investigation of crimes against protesters on Maidan and on the results of interaction with the International Criminal Court.

He particularly informed that representative of the international prosecutor had arrived to Kyiv the day before. He will thoroughly examine all the materials in the proceedings, which will subsequently be submitted to the Hague. According to V. Yarema, he has also promised to facilitate the inclusion of former senior officials, regarding which the evidence of involvement in crimes on Maidan was found, in the international wanted list.

The Prosecutor General also informed that 7 criminal proceedings against 13 persons, who had committed crimes against protesters, had already been submitted to the court. The investigation into the crimes committed against AutoMaidan activists is in process. 5 traffic police officers have been brought to justice. Another 27 proceedings against 7 traffic police officers are being processed.

He also added that the investigation into the mass shooting of people on Instytutska Street and in Mariinsky Park (Hrushevskoho Street) was in process.

Minister of the Interior Arsen Avakov reported on the process of investigation into the murder of "Vesti" newspaper journalist Vyacheslav Veremiy, activists Serhiy Nigoyan and Mykhail Zhiznevsky, mass shooting on Instytutska Street. "Both sponsors and executors of the murder of Vyacheslav Veremiy have been identified. They are in the international wanted list," the Minister said.

Head of the Security Service of Ukraine Valentyn Nalyvaichenko reported that the general from the ex-leadership of the Security Service of Ukraine suspected in the organization of cooperation with the group of Russian Federal Security Service officers had been detained and arrested. At the moment, the list of persons involved in planning and commitment of crimes is being made. The involvement of foreigners in these crimes is also being revealed. Former riot police officers have also been detained.

The President urged the heads of security forces to report on the results of investigation into these resonant cases in public.
