The meeting took place in the framework of the World Economic Forum in Davos. President Petro Poroshenko expressed condolences to Prime Minister of Turkey Ahmet Davutoğlu over the death of people as a result of the recent terrorist attacks in Turkey.
Petro Poroshenko and Ahmet Davutoğlu emphasized that Ukraine and Turkey, as true strategic partners, face ambitious agenda in 2016. In this context, the parties discussed the preparation to a series of important bilateral events, first of all, the fifth session of the High Level Strategic Council between Ukraine and Turkey that will take place in Ankara, as well as the visit of the Turkish Government to Ukraine.
The parties also discussed the issues related to the economic aggression of Russia against Ukraine and Turkey. The interlocutors believe that groundless restrictions imposed by Russia contradict the international law and Russian commitments under the WTO rules.
Ahmet Davutoğlu noted the high dynamics of transformations in Ukraine and expressed willingness to assist Ukraine in further implementation of reforms.
The Heads of State exchanged opinions on the de-occupation of Crimea and Donbas. The Prime Minister of Turkey confirmed Turkey's constant support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity within the internationally recognized borders. The parties agreed that the return of Crimea to Ukraine would not only restore the legal status of the peninsula, but also terminate human rights violation by the occupation authorities and dangerous militarization of the peninsula.
The parties also discussed the situation in the Black Sea region and the Middle East. They agreed to enhance coordination in order to counter common external challenges and threats.
