January 21-22, 2016. Representatives of the European Commission led by Augusto Gonzalez, Advisor to the Director General of the Directorate General of the European Commission "The internal market, industry, entrepreneurship and small and medium enterprises" paid a visit to the SSAU. The purpose of the meeting was to hold the session of the Working Group on Ukraine - EU Cooperation in the field of space, aimed at strengthening cooperation and regular dialogue on space exploration, the exchange of information on remote sensing, navigation, innovative projects and sharing of advanced space technology.
Chair of the Working Group for Ukraine, Deputy Chairman of the SSAU – Volodymyr Mikheyev noted that resumption of the Ukraine – EU dialogue on Space (the last meeting of the Working Group was held in 2011) would make it possible to share useful information systematically and in a constructive manner and study EU experience on topical issues for the introduction of space technology in various sectors of the economy, and allow discussing practical issues of cooperation between Ukraine and the EU.
The EU party reaffirmed its firm position in support of the independence, territorial integrity of Ukraine and stressed the readiness to strengthen cooperation in space domain.
Attendants of the meeting addressed the issue of Ukraine's participation in the EU projects such as Global Satellite Navigation System «EGNOS-Galileo», ERS program «Copernicus», as well as research and innovation program of the EU “Horizon 2020”.
Following the meeting the Parties confirmed their intention to intensify cooperation in the field of space and hold meetings on a regular basis that would consolidate the efforts of the partners in space industry and become "an effective tool" for Ukraine and the EU.
