On December 14, 2014 Ukraine made the statement on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the adoption of the UN General Assembly Resolution "Definition of Aggression" (3314(XXIX)). Ukraine's call to the UN member states to take further consolidated measures aimed at ceasing Russian military aggression against Ukraine and putting Russia back into the framework of the international law remains as relevant as ever.
According to the UN data, almost two-year Russian military aggression against Ukraine has already left over 9 thousand dead amongst civilian population, at least 20 thousand injured, and millions of forcibly displaced persons.
Attacks led by aggressor and Russia-financed terrorist organizations against civilians are especially cynical. Russia remains to be a sponsor of terrorism in the east of Ukraine and keeps providing financial, material, military and technical support to the terrorist organizations in Ukraine, in many cases under cover of the so-called 'humanitarian convoys'.
We would like to reiterate that Russian Federation's actions against Ukraine, as one of the founding members of the UN, in particular occupation and attempt of illegal annexation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, as well as ongoing direct and indirect military intervention into the east of Ukraine, are considered by clauses (а), (b), (c), (d), (e) and (g) of the Article 3 of the Annex to the UN General Assembly Resolution 3314 (XXIX), as acts of aggression.
Russia's aggression against Ukraine and support of terrorist organizations in Donetsk and Luhansk regions grossly violate norms and principles of the international law and security, and are subject to the international legal accountability of the aggressor state.
Ukraine urges all UN member states to demand from Russia to stop immediately all acts of aggression against it, in particular to withdraw Russian armed forces from the territory of Ukraine, to stop air, sea and land borders violations, to stop provision of weapons and military equipment to mercenaries of the terrorist organizations, to annul all actions aimed at legalization of illegally annexed Crimea peninsula, and its de-occupation.
Being reliable members of the international community, we have a common task to restore respect to the rule of law, to secure long-lasting peace and security, and to prevent renewal of such acts of aggression in the future.
