Ucrânia e UE intensificarão a cooperação no domínio da luta contra a corrupção e a energia (em inglês)

In the presence of President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, President of the European Council Donald Tusk and President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker, a series of bilateral documents on cooperation between Ukraine and the EU have been signed.
The Memorandum of Understanding on Strategic Energy Partnership between Ukraine and the European Union jointly with the European Atomic Energy Community has been signed by Minister of Energy and Coal Industry Ihor Nasalyk and Vice President of the European Commission for Energy Union Maroš Šefčovič.
Ukraine and the EU have concluded the Memorandum of Understanding on Energy Cooperation on December 1, 2005. The document laid out fundamental principles of cooperation over the past 10 years. However, the Ukraine-EU relations have been drastically changed, particularly Ukraine acceded to the Treaty on the Establishment of the Energy Community in 2011 and signed the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement in 2014. The reformation of the energy sector and harmonization of Ukrainian legislation under the undertaken international obligations also take place.
Thus, there was a necessity to renew the Memorandum and actualize strategic goals and vectors of cooperation. The Memorandum signed provides for the expansion of cooperation on the enhancement of energy security on the basis of the principle of solidarity and trust; ensures full integration of energy markets of Ukraine and the EU, as well as implementation of the Third Energy Package of the EU; increases energy efficiency in all spheres of energy consumption; reduces greenhouse gas emissions; promotes the use and development of renewable sources of energy, etc.
Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze and EU Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn signed the Agreement on Funding the Event “Anti-Corruption Initiative of the EU in Ukraine”.
The Agreement is based on the results of implementation of the EU Visa Liberalization Action Plan, fulfillment of the Contract for Ukraine on State Development, EU Project “Support of Reforms in the Sphere Justice”, implementation of the Framework Cooperation Program between the EU and the European Council for the Eastern Partnership countries for 2014-2017 and the activity of the EU Consultative Mission on Reformation of the Civil Security Sector.
The overall budget for implementation of the initiative amounts to EUR 16.34 million. The EU contribution equals EUR 15 million and co-financing of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark equals EUR 1.34 million.
The EU funds will be allocated to the enhancement of capacities of state authorities responsible for struggle against corruption – National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine, Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, National Agency for Prevention of Corruption, National Agency of Ukraine on Detection, Search and Management of Assets Derived from Corruption and Other Crimes, as well as Ensuring the Integrity of Employees of Other Institutions of Justice.
The implementation of the project will begin in late 2016 with direct participation of the Foreign Ministry of Denmark, which has already been involved in the fulfillment of the anti-corruption initiative in Ukraine in the framework of the UN Development Program with the involvement of competent authorities of the EU member-states.
