President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko called on representatives of churches and denominations to join the implementation of the peace plan in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
“Our Church shouldn’t stay aside. I think that the involvement of Church and its merciful mission are very important in such conditions,” the Head of State said.
Petro Poroshenko offered the ecclesiastics to support people who are held hostage by militants and facilitate the establishment of dialogue for their liberation. “This is the service to God, to my mind, that Ukraine, people and hostages need today,” he emphasized.
Locum tenens of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church metropolitan Onufriy, Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Kyiv patriarchate Filaret supported the initiative of the President.
The Head of State noted that representatives of all denominations can join the given process, from simple priests to metropolitans. “This participation should be voluntary. I know that there are a lot of ecclesiastics in Ukraine who can fulfill this hard mission,” the President noted.
