On 7 October Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin met with the delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross, led by Mr. Laurent Korbaz, head of ICRC Operations for Europe and Central Asia which arrived in Ukraine with a two-day visit.
P. Klimkin expressed deep regret and condolences upon the tragic loss of the International Committee of the Red Cross representative, Swiss citizen who was killed as a result of shelling by the terrorists of the ICRC office in Donetsk, and transmitted a letter of condolences to Mr. Peter Maurer, President of the ICRC.
He assured that Ukraine will take all appropriate measures to establish the facts of the tragic incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.
P.Klimkin underlined the importance of further ICRC activities in Ukraine, including the humanitarian assistance in the east, and expressed confidence that planned expansion of the OSCE presence in Ukraine will increase the level of safety of the ICRC team.
L.Korba assured that the International Committee of the Red Cross does not intend to reduce its presence in Ukraine and is ready to continue its humanitarian mission in the east of our country.
