At the 13th session of the National Council of Reforms, the President emphasized the need for accelerating the fulfillment of the Plan of Actions on the liberalization of visa regime with the EU.
The President reminded that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine should provide Europeans with all the necessary information on the fulfillment of this Plan by November 9. He also urged the Government and Verkhovna Rada to ensure the implementation of commitments undertaken by Ukraine in this context.
According to the Head of State, the EU expert mission on the assessment of the progress of Ukraine concluded that Ukraine has successfully fulfilled all the criteria of the second phase of the Plan of Actions in the context of border governance, security of documents, migration and asylum, struggle against money laundering and funding of terrorism.
Petro Poroshenko emphasized the importance of completing work in the areas where there is still a backlog in the fulfillment of recommendations of the European Commission: struggle against corruption and organized crime, issues of discrimination, amendments to the Labor Code.
“I would like the Government to analyze reasons of delay in the fulfillment of certain items of the Plan of Actions and adopt respective decisions. I also urge the Parliament to avoid political sympathies and antipathies when considering these issues. For it goes about the fate of Ukraine. We must provide Ukrainians with the right to travel around the European Union without visas no matter what political parties they support,” the President said.
